MAIN CHALLENGES FACED BY THE COMMUNITY: gender-based violence, unemployment, alcohol and drug abuse.

MAIN ACTIVITIES: Legal advice office; labour-related advice and assistance; skills development for youth; gender-based violence interventions

Ubuntu RWYM started as a response to the evictions on state-owned farms in the Stellenbosch area. The organisation has grown and works mainly in the Boland farming region of the Western Cape

Their main activities during 2020 focussed on 

  • food relief for vulnerable communities
  • helping the unemployed to access the R350 Covid relief grants
  • access to water for evicted communities and farm dwellers without running water/access to clean drinkable water
  • monitoring TERS applications 
  • unfair dismissals and labour related matters
  • capacity building workshops on land rights and GBV
  • protest action to support evictees and to promote an end to GBV
