Partnering with rural community-based organisations and faith leaders to build social, economic and environmental resilience to climate change.

This action will contribute to addressing both the country-level and localised need to protect livelihoods and food security from climate change and prevent deepening poverty. In supporting CBOs who are ready and willing to take immediate actions – armed with knowledge and financial resources – the action will contribute to tackling the need identified by the National Climate Change Response (NCCR) to urgently build resilience in priority sectors including water, agriculture, biodiversity and human settlements, so as to protect livelihoods, food and water. This will advance the country’s efforts to implement the NCCAS and NDCs, as well as realise constitutional rights – including the right to sufficient food (s27), children’s access to nutrition and health (s28), healthy environments (s24) and social security (s27).

The final beneficiaries of this action are rural communities in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Free State. The primary target group of this action are rural CBOs with an emphasis on those led by women and youth. Faith leaders are also a key target group which include those working in CBOs and in the SAFCEI network. Lastly, this action will target local, provincial and national government.
