Rural Partners - Northern Cape

Danielskuil

The Danielskuil Advice Office falls under the umbrella of KSDF – the Kgatalopele Social Development Forum (KSDF).

Komaggas

The Komaggas Advice Office was established in 1997 by the local development forum.  The Advice Office is a well established organisation and is registered as a Non Profit Organisation (NPO). The advice office is a revival of the Komaggas Rural Advice Group (KRAG) that stopped functioning in 2003 due to lack of funding and other logistical problems.

Nababeep

Nababeep lies north of Springbok in Namaqualand. Nababeep’s name combines two Nama words, naba, meaning ‘hump of an animal’ and bib, meaning ‘small spring’.  In the 90’s, the closure of the nearby mine which provided work to almost all of the people in Nababeep, led to mass unemployment.

Spoegrivier

Spoegrivier, which means Spit River, is home to about 1 000 people. It is deep in the mountains west of Kamieskroon on a back road to Hondeklip Bay on the Atlantic. This area was designated a „coloured reserve“ during apartheid and still bears the scars of this inhumane regime.  Infrastructure is minimal and there are almost no job opportunities.

Thuso (Pampierstad)

Pampierstad was established in the former Bophuthatswana and under apartheid as a labour community, set up to service South African industry and farms. The town takes its name from the cardboard used to construct informal shacks during the apartheid era. Nowadays the town itself has spread out, being home to arournd 35,000 people.
