Gardener, Kgatlopele Social Development Forum, Danielskuil, Northern Cape(Tannie) Bettie Louw is an organic Gardener working with the Kgatlopele Social Development Forum (KSDF) in her community Danielskuil.
With hard work, tenacity and determination, a victory is felt at our rural partner’s Molsvlei Office. Members of the Molsvlei Community Development Centre in the Northern Cape have for the last 9 months been ceaselessly lobbying the National Development Agency to transfer much needed funding and support for their brick-making project, which now employs 11 people.
Last year the National Development Agency (through the Surplus People Project as a conduit) provided funds for two Advice Offices in the Northern Cape, Bitterfontein and Molsvlei. In 2011, the Bitterfontein Advice Office closed down. The funding for the brickmaking project, initially shared by both Offices, was stopped. The Molsvlei community organisation worked tirelessly to re-obtain the support for the project they had been banking on. The National Development Agency has finally agreed to transfer the funds for the brick-making project to the Molsvlei office, resulting in a functional use of precious financial resources in the area. Two assets have also been gained through the project – an electronic brick-making machine and a vehicle.
The brick-making project not only creates much needed employment, it uplifts community spirit and provides affordable bricks for people in the area to buy.
